Unravel the Knots of Modern Mindfulness at the Tzu Chi Center

Published on Feb 17, 2021

In a time of uncertainty, mindfulness can be an important aspect of your mental health that should be focused on more often than not.

Join the Tzu Chi Center and Dr. Frank M. Diaz at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, as they unravel the different knots of mindfulness, including psychology, ethics and spirituality, in this C.A.F.E. 229 Series Two online event hosted by Joanne Chang.

In the discussion, titled “Psychology, Ethics, and Spirituality — Unraveling the Knots of Modern Mindfulness,” Diaz, a scholar and teacher in the field of contemplative science, will illuminate the similarities and differences between Buddhist and contemporary psychological framings of mindfulness. He will suggest an ethical path forward for studying and applying mindfulness in secular settings.

Diaz is a professor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, affiliate faculty for the IU Cognitive Science Program, and founder and director of the Institute for Mindfulness-Based Wellness and Pedagogy.

He teaches meditative practices across the United States. Media outlets such as CNN, NPR, Science Daily, and Huffington Post have featured his work.

The Tzu Chi Center’s C.A.F.E. 229 talk series (C.A.F.E. stands for compassion in action, freedom and enlightenment) is on the third Friday of each month. These webinars are free and open to the public.
