Vivacious Brooklynite Mara Kaye Sings the Blues

Published on Sep 15, 2022

Brooklyn-born blues singer Mara Kaye performs Friday, Sept. 16, 8 p.m., at The Coffee Gallery Backstage.

This vivacious young Brooklynite will be accompanied by old-time music treasure, Clint Davis on mandolin and fiddle, and Tim McNalley will play the guitar extraordinarily well.

“Mara Kaye is ‘one of New York’s great gifts to the world,’ like some last pocket of the blues that never got explored, all wrapped up in a ball of 21st-century Brooklyn-bred attitude,” says a Coffee Gallery Backstage promo. “She’s got ‘a voice that sounds like Louis Armstrong’s trumpet at a rent party’ according to Jimmy Vivino, and The Wall Street Journal thinks she’s an ‘outstanding young artist.’”

Kaye’s song “Dystopian Blues” has been played on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ and her single, “It Had to Be You” with piano legend, Carl Sonny Leyland is playing on steady rotation on 88.1 KJAZZ.

Tickets to her performance are $20.

For tickets, call (626) 798-6236 or visit www.coffeegallery.com/blog/09-16-22-mara-kaye.html.

The Coffee Gallery Backstage is at 2029 N. Lake Ave. in Altadena.
