Spring will arrive soon. Summer will come in, hot on spring’s heels. And that means the beach. And the only thing that makes us happier than dreaming of a day at the beach, is that day itself. Plus, who knows beaches better than California?

With that in mind, and ever mindful of the vast number of beaches and hotels to choose from up and down the coast, we’ve curated a tiny handful of weekend hideaways from the Four Sisters Inn Collection.

Here are a few beach getaways you might want to ponder, as spring and summer come bearing down upon us.

On California’s north coast await the  Blue Door Inns – Mendocino, a petite collection of three inns in the heart of Mendocino Village, all within walking distance of each other. Whether you opt for the rustic Packard House, the modern JD House, or the luxurious Blue Door Inn, you’ll find yourself enamored of this quiet town and its local boutiques, restaurants, gardens, iconic water towers, and of course, its coastal views.

All guests of Packard House, JD House, and Blue Door Inn enjoy signature amenities, which include a full breakfast delivered daily, along with an afternoon wine and cheese mini-picnic, for starters.

While in town, one can visit Mendocino Headlands Park, where miles of coastal trails, secluded beaches, and soaring cliff vistas show off the beauty of NorCal’s rugged coast.

West Cliff Inn – Pacific Grove is situated on a bluff across from Cowell’s Beach and the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The fully renovated Victorian inn features a coastal-inspired decor with rattan furnishings in  a mix of recycled woods, and local artisan accessories.

Take a walk to the historic Beach Boardwalk, bike ride along the water, or shop at the most eclectic stores in California for the perfect getaway.  Or plan your own perfect itinerary among the many choices.

All guests of the West Cliff may borrow complimentary bikes during their stay for an easy ride to catch a sunset amidst the tidepools at Asilomar Beach, for example.

Closer to home, The Blue Lantern Inn – Dana Point is an ideal base for those looking for relaxation and exploration of this coastal runaway.

The small hotel has just  29 spacious guestrooms  and  thoughtfully curated amenities. It’s well-suited for those who appreciate personalized service, uncrowded spaces, and a convivial coastal atmosphere to disconnect in, just a short stroll from the center of downtown  Dana Point  and a quick drive from Laguna Beach.

If you actually surf, rent a board and make the short walk down to the sandy shores of Dana Strand beach, where the summer surf should be manageable for those taking the first steps towards hanging ten. Or five, for that matter

The Inn at Playa Del Rey – Playa Del Rey has been the recipient of the Condé Nast Gold Award, voted “One of the Ten Best Urban Inns” by Forbes.com, and has been awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for the past five years. Awaken each morning by opening your windows to the fresh sea air and views of the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve and Marina del Rey beyond as you enjoy a complimentary, homemade breakfast while snowy egrets, blue herons, and ponds of ducks share the morning.

While the Inn is close to freeways, world-class museums, shopping, restaurants, and corporate offices, you should instead walk to the beach or pedal at least some of the nearby 30-mile bicycle path.
