Beverage brand Erva Brew Co. announced it is opening its first full-service Yerba Mate Bar in Pasadena this Friday, July 17, at 2377 E. Colorado Blvd.
The first-of-its-kind storefront will be celebrated with a socially distant grand opening party (RSVPs are required).
“Tomorrow is the day! Grand Opening will be in full effect,” Erva Brew Co. said in a post on Facebook Thursday. “We’ll be raffling off discount-for-life cards, specials all day, free cancha and chifle, empanadas on deck and of course, plenty of mate to go around. Please remember this is takeout only and masks are required for entry. RSVP is encouraged but not required.”
The bar’s extensive beverage menu includes cold-brewed blends of yerba mate, yerba mate mocktails mixed to order, and hot yerba mate beverages as well. A variety of snacks and small bites including vegan empanadas will also be on offer, the announcement said.
Yerba mate is the drink derived from the brewed dried leaves and stem of a tree from the holly family, also called yerba mate, that only grows in humid regions of South America. The drink has a robust, earthy, smoky flavor that is unique to the tea. The drink has been enjoyed by the people of South America for hundreds of years.
Erva Brew Co. says the drink has 90 percent more nutrition than green tea and is an important source of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants. All of these nutrients, combined with naturally-occurring caffeine, enables the brewed “tea” to elevate your mood – some people call it “happy tea” – and improve your concentration, while also relieving stress. Erva says its yerba mate is fair trade, organic certified, and imported from family farms in Misiones, Argentina. The unsmoked whole plant cut possesses a lighter, brighter flavor than other mate.
