Police arrested a man and woman who were sought in connection with a robbery earlier this year after recognizing the suspects during a traffic stop in Pasadena on Friday, officials said.

Officers pulled over a car for traffic violations about 7:15 p.m. at Sunnyslope Avenue and Walnut Street, Pasadena police Lt. Marcia Taglioretti said.

They recognized the young woman at the wheel of the car as a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery that took place in the city in January, according to the lieutenant. She was also unlicensed.

Further investigation revealed both the woman and a man who was riding as a passenger in the car were being sought as suspects in the January crime, Taglioretti said. They were taken into custody without a struggle.

Jasmine Gray, 19, of Pasadena and Robbie Malik Leagons, 23, of Pasadena were booked on suspicion of robbery, according to police and Los Angeles County booking records.

The robbery the suspects were accused of took place on Jan. 15 in the 1100 block of Sunset Avenue, officials said.

In that crime, a 27-year-old woman had just gotten into her car when the driver of another vehicle honked a vehicle horn, Lt. Anthony Burgess said at the time.

When the woman got out of her car to see what was happening, a young man and woman attacked and beat her, he said. The female robber stripped the victim of her jewelry, while the man went through the victim’s car and stole a laptop computer and a tablet.

The victim was not seriously injured in the assault, police said.

Bail for Gray was set at $50,000 pending her initial court appearance, records show. Leagons was being held without bail.

Leagons had a pending case against him at the time of Thursday’s arrest for allegedly violating the terms of Post-Release Community Supervision, or felony probation, stemming from a prior conviction, according to L.A. County Superior Court records. Prior convictions in the county include identity theft in 2018 and two counts of burglary in 2016.
