Police said two violent incidents occurred near a Hastings Ranch area intersection within hours of each other Saturday resulted in one arrest and a Good Samaritan requiring hospital treatment for injuries.
Lt. Rudy Memos said the two attacks occurred in the vicinity of Halstead Street and Foothill Boulevard.
Police were informed about 10:30 a.m. that a local man walking on the sidewalk had seen a man violently attacking a person lying on the ground. When the witness called out to the attacker to stop, the suspect sicced his dog on the Good Samaritan, who was bitten on his right hand, Lemos said.
The victim fled and transported himself to a local hospital, where police were later notified. Officers were unable to locate either the suspect or the man the witness said had been beaten.
In the second incident, a bike rider was flagged down by a man yelling for attention. When the bicyclist pulled over, the man assaulted him and grabbed his bicycle at knifepoint.
Responding officers quickly located the suspect, who briefly resisted and held them at bay wielding the knife.
The officers, using de-escalation techniques, defused the confrontation and took the mnan into custody, Lemos said.
The arrested man was identified by Lemos as 44-year-old Jimmy Denham, an unhoused person who frequents Pasadena.

They should show a picture of this man so people can be aware in case they come in contact with him
