A Graduate of Remarkable Achievement: April “Mitch” Gonzalez Chavez

April “Mitch” Gonzalez Chavez, a graduate of the John Muir High School Early College Magnet program, has built an academic and extracurricular record that reflects exceptional dedication, leadership, and perseverance.

Along with earning her high school diploma, April completed three Associate of Arts degrees from Pasadena City College in Political Science, Communication Studies, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. Throughout her time at John Muir High School, she maintained an impressive level of involvement, participating in Water Polo, Swim, Marching and Concert Band, Track and Field, Partnerships for Success, internships with the Gamble House and the Altadena Town Council, volunteer work with the Democratic National Committee, and the Gender and Sexuality Alliance. This fall, she will attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison on a full scholarship through the prestigious Posse Scholarship Program, where she plans to double major in English and Political Science while continuing her studies at Pasadena City College to earn a paralegal studies certificate.

One of April’s most meaningful accomplishments came on June 4, when she crossed the Pasadena City College graduation stage alongside her mother, Maria, who was inspired by her daughter’s educational journey to pursue her own academic goals. Their shared achievement serves as a powerful example of the impact education can have across generations. The Pasadena Unified School District proudly congratulates April on her outstanding accomplishments and wishes her continued success in the years ahead.
