Thurgood Marshall Graduate Leo Walters Honored with Prestigious Ellen Garrison Clark Scholarship

Thurgood Marshall Secondary School proudly celebrates Class of 2026 graduate Leo Walters, recipient of the esteemed Ellen Garrison Clark Scholarship presented by the Altadena Historical Society (AHS). The scholarship was awarded during the society’s annual Juneteenth Celebration and Scholarship Luncheon, held at Loma Alta Park, where community members gathered to honor student achievement and commemorate the rich history and contributions of Altadena’s Black community. The event also featured previews of an ongoing oral history project dedicated to preserving the voices and experiences of local residents.

Leo is pictured alongside Veronica Jones, President of the Altadena Historical Society, and Miles Kealing, Field Representative for California District 41 Assemblymember John Harabedian. He is also pictured with Savannah Moore, Assistant Field Deputy for Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

This fall, Leo will begin his post-secondary journey at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where he plans to pursue studies in Theater and Creative Writing. His scholarship recognition reflects both his academic accomplishments and his promising future as he embarks on the next chapter of his educational journey.
