Catholic Schools Week at Alverno Heights Academy Serves Up Spirit, Sportsmanship and Smiles
Alverno Heights Academy marked Catholic Schools Week with a joyful week of activities celebrating the vibrant spirit and community that make this independent Catholic school such a special place for students and families.
Students and staff enjoyed a wide array of themed events, but one of the most anticipated highlights was the Teachers vs. 8th Grade volleyball match — played with raucous enthusiasm on the Academy’s brand-new sport courts. Cheers, friendly competition and plenty of school pride filled the air as students rallied to support their classmates and favorite teachers in a memorable match that embodied the Academy’s core values of teamwork, joy and community.
The event wasn’t just about fun: it showcased the strong relationships between students and their teachers, and celebrated the resilience, confidence and camaraderie that Catholic Schools Week aims to foster.
Located on a scenic 13.5-acre campus in Sierra Madre, Alverno Heights Academy serves students from Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade, blending strong academics, faith formation and meaningful extracurricular opportunities. The school’s educational philosophy emphasizes developing well-rounded young people who are spiritually grounded, socially engaged and prepared to lead with compassion and confidence.
The new sport courts — a recent addition to campus — have already become a hub of student life, offering fresh space for athletics, recreation and community gatherings that help strengthen bonds across all grade levels.
Catholic Schools Week, celebrated each year across the U.S., offers an opportunity for Catholic schools to highlight the unique benefits of faith-based education — from academic excellence to spiritual growth and service-oriented values. At Alverno Heights Academy, the week’s activities brought those themes to life through moments of laughter, teamwork and spirited competition that will be remembered long after the final point was scored.
