Exploring the Brain: Frostig School Biology Students Take Learning to the Lab

Students in Mr. Lee’s high school biology class at Frostig School recently brought their study of the human brain to life through a hands-on laboratory experience. As part of their current unit on neuroscience, students examined the structure and function of the brain by dissecting a sheep’s brain, giving them the opportunity to observe its internal anatomy up close. During the lab, students carefully identified key structures such as the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem while discussing how these parts contribute to vital functions like movement, coordination, and cognition. The exercise also encouraged students to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between human and animal brains, deepening their understanding of brain evolution and biological complexity.
