Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 95 years strong!

For 95 years, young women have climbed to the top of the Hill, drawn by an education rooted in faith, integrity, and truth. The Catholic, Dominican-founded school for girls has launched a centennial countdown campaign to mark and celebrate 100 years of Heart at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. The campaign celebrates five themes: Heart of Community, Heart of Champions, Heart of Changemakers, Heart of Trailblazers, and Heart of Visionaries.

The first, Heart of Community, traces back to the school’s founding by the Dominican Sisters, whose faith and devotion turned an empty hilltop hotel into a thriving school. That same spirit and legacy continues through faculty and staff who go above and beyond, and in families and alumnae who stay involved, giving both their time and resources to uplift the school and support every student.

The Heart of Champions shows up in students’ and alumnae’s character and grit. Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy teams, known as the TOLOGS, have built a reputation for competitiveness, sportsmanship, and consistent top finishes. The school’s foundation of excellence is built through dedicated practice, hard work, and resilience, with athletes known for supporting and encouraging one another through both setbacks and wins.

The Heart of Changemakers draws on the school’s motto, Veritas, as a call to action. Students of every faith tradition are encouraged to deepen their spiritual journey while devoting themselves to service and to causes aimed at a more just and equitable world.

The Heart of Trailblazers celebrates the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy alumnae who came before and continue to inspire future generations. These alumnae include Beverly Beesemyer ’37, who was among the first female WASP pilots; Astrid Fischel ’71, who served as First Vice President of Costa Rica; Barbara Ling ’71, who won an Oscar for production design; Katie Johnson ’12, who played Division I soccer at USC and helped lead the team to a national championship; and Jill Bellamy ’84, Ph.D., who consulted for EU-NATO as an international security expert on biological warfare. Countless other alumnae have become leaders in nonprofits, literature, teaching, and STEM, and have gone on to lead with perseverance, break glass ceilings, and fearlessly face the challenges of their time. Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy’s all-girls environment gives young women this same confidence to find their voice, be courageous, and be bold.

The Heart of Visionaries emphasizes inquiry-based learning and critical thinking, with students working at the intersection of science, technology, engineering, and the arts. Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy has been ranked among America’s Best STEM High Schools, and its students regularly earn RISE Scholar Awards and national honors from the National Center for Women & Information Technology and the College Board. Its signature four-year, college-level research program, its boarding and international exchange programs, and its partnerships with JPL and Boeing have earned it a reputation of excellence. Students are encouraged to dream big and embrace their limitless potential.

Prospective families can visit the campus at the school’s Open House on October 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tours and other spotlight days can be scheduled at fsha.org/visit.
