History Comes Alive: Sequoyah Students Debate the Road to Independence

Passions ran high on the K–8 campus this morning as Sequoyah School junior high history students engaged in a spirited debate over whether the American colonies should declare independence from England. Each student stepped into the role of a historical figure, bringing past perspectives to life with conviction and careful research. Faculty and administrators were invited to act as judges, evaluating not only the strength of each argument but also the students’ ability to embody their assigned personas. The lively exchange filled the room with energy, sparking thoughtful conversations that continued well after the formal debate ended. Activities like this deepen students’ understanding of history by immersing them directly in the complexities of decision-making. Thank you to our students for preparing powerful arguments for both sides of the debate.
