Immaculate Heart Middle & High School Celebrates Black History Month with a Student-Led Celebration of Black Excellence

Immaculate Heart Middle & High School is in the midst of celebrating Black History Month and recently hosted a joyful, student-led campus gathering centered on the theme Black Excellence Through the Decades. Held on February 13th, the celebration brought students, faculty, and staff together for an afternoon rooted in creativity and community, and was thoughtfully facilitated by Immaculate Heart’s Black Student Association.

The program opened with a moving rendition of the hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” performed by Riley H., a member of the class of 2028. Her performance set the tone for a series of powerful spoken word poetry presentations by students that followed, each highlighting moments of Black excellence across generations. Next, students shared an in-depth overview of Immaculate Heart’s new AP African American Studies course, offered for the first time this academic year, highlighting students’ perspectives on the importance of access to this curriculum. The celebration concluded with students enjoying an array of culinary treats.

In addition to this on-campus event, Immaculate Heart continues to share Black History Month content across its digital platforms. This content is curated by High School students serving as social media liaisons, and includes thoughtful interviews, as well as photos and poetry from Middle School students following their recent Civil Rights Trip through the American South.

Immaculate Heart remains committed to empowering women of great heart and right conscience. This Black History Month celebration reflected the school’s ongoing dedication to strengthening community and lifting student voices.
