PEF Celebrating PUSD’s Visionaries at the No Boundaries Reception
The Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF) hosted a reception at No Boundaries 19, the all-district art exhibition featuring a stunning array of artworks from across all PUSD schools. This year’s exhibition, created in collaboration with key community partners such as artworxLA and Rose City High School students, brought together young curators and seasoned professionals to craft an exhibit that was both immersive and inspiring.
Among the highlights were more than 400 pieces of vibrant art, with a special spotlight on this year’s PEF Teacher Grant winner of the Calvin Hunt Arts Award. “The Dinner Party,” a re-imagined homage to Judy Chicago’s renowned 1979 work, stood at the heart of the exhibit. This ambitious project was brought to life through the collective efforts of students from Marshall Fundamental, Norma Coombs Elementary, and Altadena Arts Magnet. Inspired by Chicago’s feminist masterpiece, PUSD students created a more inclusive version that celebrates 18 diverse women who have shaped history, each represented through meticulously crafted dinner plates, goblets, and glass bowls, alongside fabric banners that narrate their stories.
Over 200 PUSD students contributed to this reimagining, echoing the original Dinner Party’s spirit, which elevated traditional women’s crafts like ceramics and embroidery to the stature of gallery-worthy art.
Karen Anderson, PUSD’s Arts & Enrichment Coordinator, shared insights on the multifaceted support for the arts in PUSD, highlighting the significant roles of Prop 28, PEF contributions, and district funding. The evening reached a melodious finale with a captivating performance by members of Pasadena High School’s advanced orchestra, culminating in a celebration of artistic achievement and community collaboration.
