Polytechnic School has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to significantly enhance the Poly student experience and create a true community asset for Altadena. In October 2022, they announced their plan to acquire Nuccio’s Nurseries, located approximately six miles from Poly’s Pasadena campus. Through a multi-year, extensive, and thoughtful planning process, PolyFields aims to enable Polytechnic School to advance its mission by expanding educational and athletic programming, further distinguishing a Poly education.
The intention for the PolyFields project is to honor the history and ecological importance of the site by preserving the majority of the 80 acres as open space and focusing sports and wellness activities within the general footprint of the current nursery. This approach will also support hands-on learning in environmental science, sustainability, and outdoor education. Among the guiding principles will be ensuring that neighboring public hiking trails remain accessible to the community and protecting the native undeveloped land, as well as the plant and animal species living within it.
Polytechnic School is fully committed to a comprehensive community engagement effort with their neighbors in Altadena, aiming to be proactive and transparent at all stages of the process. They look forward to sharing updates as the project unfolds.
