Service in Action: High Point Junior High Students Make a Meaningful Impact
At High Point, service learning is more than a concept; it’s a commitment our students bring to life through compassion, initiative, and teamwork. Our Junior High Service Club has been especially busy this spring, leading projects that not only support important causes but also foster a deep sense of connection with the broader community.
Supporting Families Through the Door of Hope Project
In partnership with Door of Hope, a local organization dedicated to helping families experiencing homelessness, our Service Club students identified a meaningful way to make a tangible difference. After connecting with Door of Hope to better understand their needs, students learned that they could benefit from additional toy storage for children living there.
Determined to help, the students organized fundraisers during the 7th and 8th grade dances hosted on campus, channeling their energy and creativity into raising funds for the project. With the proceeds, the club purchased a toy storage unit to support the children and families served by Door of Hope.
But they didn’t stop there. Demonstrating true ownership of the project, students worked together to assemble the unit themselves before delivering it in person. On Friday, April 17th, accompanied by Mrs. Zeiss and Mr. V. Mejia, the students brought the completed storage unit to Iris’s House, seeing firsthand the impact of their efforts and the difference even a small act of service can make.
Honoring History Through Service: Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day Bake Sale
The Junior High Service Club also partnered with the Junior High Armenian Club to support a powerful and educational initiative: the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day Bake Sale.
Working collaboratively, students helped organize and promote the event while also engaging the school community in meaningful dialogue. Service Club members reached out to teachers to coordinate classroom presentations, educating peers about Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day and raising awareness about Orran, the organization that would receive the proceeds.
On April 24th, the bake sale brought the community together in both remembrance and generosity. Armenian Club members prepared over 400 individually wrapped Armenian treats, and with the support of the Service Club helping to run the sale, the event raised more than $1,000 for Orran.
Growing as Leaders and Changemakers
Through these projects, our Junior High Service Club members are learning what it truly means to lead with empathy, collaborate with purpose, and serve with heart. Whether assembling furniture for families in need or helping amplify awareness for important global issues, these students are making a lasting impact both in their community and within themselves.
We are incredibly proud of their dedication and can’t wait to see how they continue to serve and inspire!
