South Pasadena Tigers Edge Out La Cañada Spartans in Nail-Biting Victory

The South Pasadena High School Tigers handed the La Cañada High School Spartans their first loss of the season with a thrilling 23–22 victory. Though the Spartans outgained South Pasadena in total yards, the Tigers’ defense made key stops to prevent La Cañada from converting their drives into points. South Pasadena’s momentum came from running back Trey Freking, who rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns, marking his fourth consecutive game surpassing 100 rushing yards.

Quarterback Joe Bell led the Spartans with 79 passing yards and a 72.7% completion rate, while Dash Paper added 133 rushing yards and a touchdown. The victory evened South Pasadena’s record at 4–4, while La Cañada dropped to 7–1. Both teams have since bounced back with wins – La Cañada defeating Monrovia 14–0 and South Pasadena edging out San Marino 30–22—showing that this close contest was a defining moment for both programs.
