Black History Month Program “Can We Talk” An Evening with Tevin Campbell

Published on Feb 3, 2022

R&B singer, songwriter and actor Tevin Campbell will sit down and answer questions in support of Black History Month and Pasadena’s Clazzical Notes Music Education programs on February 17th. At 6:30 pm PST Tickets $15.00 on Eventbrite.com or clazzicalnotes.org

The five-time Grammy nominee will respond to questions about his rise from being a 12-year-old hitmaker to an adult who is still singing the hits and drawing audiences on the world-wide stage.

Campbell has been written for and produced by music icons Quincy Jones, Prince, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Narada Michael Walden, Alan and Marilyn Bergman and Wyclef Jean among others.

“Education and music have always been important to me,” says the Waxahachie, TX native. “Singing runs in my family. My mother sang in the church. That is where I started.”

Benny Medina signed Campbell to Warner Bros. Records in 1989. It was Medina who introduced him to Jones and the rest is history. The world first heard Campbell singing “Tomorrow (A Better You, A Better Me)” on Jones’ Grammy Award winning LP “Back on the Block” Next came Prince and Campbell’s acting debut and first solo Top 10 hit, “Round and Round” from the “Graffiti Bridge” soundtrack. Campbell followed with his double-platinum debut album T.E.V.I.N.

The year 1993 was a big one for Campbell. He teamed with Babyface, Prince and Walden to record “I’m Ready,” his second album. He made his home on the Billboard charts with the megahits “I’m Ready,” “Can We Talk” and “Always in My Heart.”

Campbell spent five years on Broadway as “Seaweed” in the smash hit “Hairspray” and appeared in Disney’s “A Goofy Movie” as “Powerline.” His acting resume includes guest appearances on the sitcoms “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” and “Moesha.”
