Who says you can’t have a view when staying at the airport? At the Hyatt Regency LAX, the closest hotel in proximity to the airport, a beautiful view is just what you’ll get. I had a room overlooking the colored pilings and a great view of take-offs and landings. The 580 room hotel offers large rooms with all the modern gizmos and a fast and strong internet signal. It’s a great place to spend the night when you have those early morning flights or late-night arrivals.
It definitely is tailored to the traveler. There’s all-night room service and the unity la market restaurant is open 24 hours. The market offers an upscale grab and go station, a freshly prepared salad and sandwich station, and a soup and noodle station. So if you arrive at two in the morning with a hankering for a salad it’s there for you.
You might think that being that close to LAX would be noisy, not so. With the quadruple-pane, soundproof windows you’ll see the planes but won’t hear them. Of course if you go outside to the spacious pool do expect to hear the jets coming and going. The pool is open dawn to dusk and has fire pits, cabanas and unique heat lamps to add to the cozy, contemporary lounge-like atmosphere.

I tried a number of the dinner offerings like the Papaya Salad and Drunken Noodles from Thai Town, Edamame from Little Tokyo, Charred Corn Salad and Brandt Farms Ribeye from Boyle Heights, and Fish Tacos from Santa Monica. One of the stand-outs for me were the Drunken Noodles with crisp tofu, broccoli, dark sauce and Thai basil; an excellent choice for vegetarians. I was also impressed with the Charred Corn Salad, done in the style of Mexican corn on the cob, with cotija cheese, cilantro and lime crema. The Fish Tacos were delicious featuring corn tortillas filled with lime seared rock fish, cabbage, radish, a zesty salsa verde, and cilantro. Also of note was the Brandt Farms Ribeye with Kennebec potato stir fry, and a red wine vinegar reduction sauce.
Of course a meal is not a meal without the dessert. Banana Spring Rolls with five spice cinnamon, mango coconut sauce for dipping fit the bill nicely as did the apple tart with ice cream. A dulce de leche cake was a sweet bite.
I also spent a little time in the unity bar where some unique organic liquors are served. Greenbar Distillery makes an assortment of spirits using organic plants and fruits to enhance the flavors. Melkon and Litty, Greenbar Distillery’s co-founders through trial and error made the discovery that organic crops really do make a favorable impact to the flavor.
The Hyatt Regency LAX also offers its exclusive Hyatt Regency Club offering guest exclusive private access to enjoy hoted continental breakfast, evening hors d’oeuvres, desserts and beverages. For those guests who do not qualify based on their status with the World of Hyatt loyalty program, access can be reserved through he hotel’s reservations system and a daily rate will be added to the room rate.
