Kids Can Make Their Own ‘Mini-Floats’ at Kidspace Close to Where Actual Floats Are Being Finished

Kids can make their own miniature Rose Parade floats just yards from where builders are creating actual floats during Kidspace Children’s Museum’s  Festive Floats Workshop right up until Friday.

Daily up to December 31, kids 5 and up can take part in the 40-minute workshop with other kids, and assemble their own mini parade floats out of cardboard and other ordinary materials, with help from their own caregivers and family members, and guided by Kidspace Museum staff.

They can even add some simple animation if they want, said Kristen Payne, Marketing Manager at Kidspace Children’s Museum. Payne said this locomotion and automata cardboard-building challenge is inspired by the Rose Parade’s theme for 2022, “Dream. Believe. Achieve.”

“This kid-driven activity invites guests to work together to build and animate their float,” Payne said. “Show off what ‘Dream. Believe. Achieve.’ means to you as you learn about wheels and axles and simple automata.”

The workshop, part of Kidspace’s Imagination Workshop series, is free with your paid entry ticket to the museum, but advanced online reservations are required.

Each workshop reservation includes one workbench for up to four guests from one household and all materials. Hourly sessions begin at 11 a.m. up to 5 p.m. daily through December 31.

Kids have been able to build over 300 mini-floats since the workshops started on November 30, Payne said.
