Nic Chamberlain Performs Tonight at The Coffee Gallery Backstage

Published on Dec 3, 2021

The Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena presents guitarist, singer and songwriter Nic Chamberlain on Friday, December 3, starting at 8 p.m.

Having performed all over North America, Nic Chamberlain brings original music driven by a powerful voice and expert playing. His combination of wit and guitar wizardry has wowed audiences for over 20 years.

Never without a band of crack side-people, each of Chamberlain’s shows presents a dazzling display of instrumental improvisation. Audiences can count on amusing anecdotes and musical purity as he rolls out his set of finely crafted songs from his heart and experience.

Chamberlain has been performing in his hometown of Toquerville, Utah since he was just three years old. He picked up the drums when he was eight years old and immediately fell in love. As he was growing up, he learned enough guitar to accompany himself. Before leaving home, he would sing harmonies in a barbershop quartet, impressing the members of his grandmother’s book club with swooning ballads.

After serving as a missionary for his church, Chamberlain spent his 20s pursuing a legal education and starting a family. As a free-lance drummer, he put food on a table for his wife and five children. Starting a law practice in his hometown, he did his best at a time when the nation was experiencing the Great Recession. But an artist can only take so much litigation, so when he hit his seventh year of practice, music’s call became irrepressible.

Encouraged by his wife, he began recording an album in the basement of their home. He wrote songs and practiced guitar on his lunch breaks. Each night after the kids went to bed, he and his wife would record the album; he would play and sing the tracks, and she would engineer it on the laptop.

They released their first album, Watch for the Wolves, in 2016, a therapeutic album with themes of freedom and escape from mediocrity. That same year, Chamberlain was invited by a musician friend to play various parts in several tribute bands he had put together. He was able to showcase his performing skills and stage presence for sold-out theaters in Canada and the mid-Western United States.

While keeping Chamberlain’s law practice going in Southern Utah, the family relocated to Los Angeles in 2018 to further establish a music career.
