Pasadena Chorale, a community chorus that presents affordable high-quality choral concerts and educational programs to the Pasadena Community, has secured the 2024 American Prize in Choral Performance’s community division.

The national award, administered by a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization, recognizes the group’s dedication to artistic excellence in the nation’s most comprehensive series of classical arts contests.

“We are beyond thrilled and deeply honored that Pasadena Chorale has received the 2024 American Prize in Choral Performance,”  Jeffrey Bernstein, Founding Artistic & Executive Director of Pasadena Chorale, said.

Founded in 2009, the chorale has evolved over 15 years from a local singing group into a nationally recognized ensemble, previously earning second place the American Prize in 2017.

The organization maintains a distinctive mission to create choral music that educates, uplifts and inspires, offering all concerts to the public at no cost.

The American Prize competition, established in 2010, has distributed nearly $150,000 in awards and attracts contestants from all 50 states, evaluating performances on artistic quality and musicianship.

The chorale operates two signature educational initiatives: the Listening to the Future program connecting high school composers with professional mentors, and the High Notes treble chorus providing free instruction for middle school students.

The ensemble has collaborated with prominent organizations including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and the Pasadena Playhouse throughout its history.

The chorale receives support from various organizations, including the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Pasadena Community Foundation, and the City of Pasadena.
