Pasadena Humane Celebrates Pet-People Bond With Rose Parade Float and Celebratory Events

Published on Dec 26, 2023

Pasadena Humane is gearing up for a significant return to the Rose Parade after a two-decade hiatus. “Feed the Love,” their 55-foot float, stands as a beacon celebrating the profound bond between pets and their human companions.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition sponsors this year’s creation by Artistic Entertainment Services (AES) and aligns with the parade’s theme, “Celebrating a World of Music.”

“‘Feed the Love’ is a 55-ft float that celebrates the relationship between pets and their people, while encouraging shelter pet adoption and recognizing the role that science-led nutrition plays in helping them be healthy, happy and more adoptable,” said Kevin McManus, PR and Communications Manager for Pasadena Humane.

The float will feature kittens playing underneath a cat tree, a hungry dog eagerly awaiting a bowl of nutritious food while sporting an ‘Adopt Me’ bandana, and other things to show what it’s like to give shelter pets a warm welcome.

On the float, Dia DuVernet, Pasadena Humane President & CEO, and Joann Fuller, Hill’s Pet Nutrition’s Food, Shelter & Love program lead, will be joined by employees, volunteers, community members and a handful of dogs to encourage adoption, fostering, volunteering and donating to help animals in need.

To top it off, the audience will enjoy an original song created in collaboration with the Los Angeles College of Music emphasizing the message of love and adoption.

“The float showcases the joys of welcoming a pet into your home,” DuVernet said as she shared her enthusiasm about the project’s essence.

Preparation for the parade is in full swing. Currently undergoing “dry decorating” by AES, the finishing touches will come to life during the “wet decoration” phase in the week leading up to New Year’s Day. McManus confirmed multiple volunteer decorating days during this crucial period.

In tandem with the float’s theme, Pasadena Humane has orchestrated a series of events to engage the community.

On Dec. 28, “Behind the Roses: Float Preview Party” offers friends of Pasadena Humane an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse of the float’s creation at the Rosemont Pavilion. Attendees can savor a festive lunch, witness the float’s transformation, and participate in the decoration process. The involvement of Hill’s Pet Nutrition and the concerted efforts of Pasadena Humane and its volunteers underscore a shared commitment to promoting pet adoption, fostering, volunteering, and donations, ultimately aiming to assist animals in need. This collaboration has facilitated over 53,000 dogs and cats finding loving homes – a significant achievement for the organization.
