The Pasadena Public Library presents The Bob Baker Marionette Theatre Puppet Performance on Zoom from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The online puppet show is free and fun for the whole family.

This summer, the Bob Baker Marionettes will be back doing live, in-person performances outdoors with a free, never-before-seen musical tour “Bob Baker’s Holiday Brouhaha,” which will be at Kidspace Children’s Museum in Pasadena on Aug. 28.

The Bob Baker Marionette Theatre started in 1963 when Baker and partner Alton Wood transformed a run-down shop near downtown Los Angeles into a family entertainment institution. Designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2009, the theater has served more than one million children with original shows ranging from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” to a musical journey through the history of Los Angeles.

After Baker died in 2014 at the age of 90, the puppeteers and staff transitioned into being the stewards of both the past and the future of Baker’s beloved theater. Each box that was packed and moved from the theater’s historic home at 1345 W. 1st St. to the new theater in Highland Park carried a story of a puppeteer or fabricator who had contributed to the fabric of the program.

The tour celebrates a year’s worth of holidays, packed within a 30-minute puppet-filled musical spectacular. An homage to all of the celebrations that took place a bit differently during the pandemic, this tour allows audiences to enjoy a rollicking trip through the calendar year complete with the tricks and treats of Hallowe’en Spooktacular, a cavalcade of Christmas cheer, and much more.
