Pasadena Police Chief John Perez will be guest speaker Wednesday, February 10, during the Rotary Club of Pasadena’s weekly virtual meeting, which begins at 12 noon.
He will speak on the topic, “A New Reality: Reimagining Police Services.” He will be introduced by JP Harris.
John Eduardo Perez joined the Pasadena Police department in 1985 as a Police Cadet. His assignments have included community relations, internal affairs, gang enforcement, narcotics and the SWAT team. He has been a senior command staff member since 2006, serving as a Commander and Deputy Chief prior to his current assignment as Chief of Police.
In 2001, immediately after the tragedy of the World Trade Center, Perez was appointed as the counter-terrorism liaison for the Pasadena Police Department. In this position, he assisted in the development of several homeland security initiatives, public safety initiatives for major venues such as the Rose Bowl, and collaborating to establish countrywide response and investigation of potential terrorism events, as well as developing homeland security initiatives that continue to serve as models in today’s world.
Since 2018, as the Chief of Police, Perez has initiated several policing concepts such as the Chief’s Advisory Board, 30-day use of force reviews process to improve and reduce use of force incidents, Community Conversation Sessions, and the Critical Body-Worn-Camera video release policy to educate the public of incidents after a critical event such as Officer Involved Shootings.
He is a graduate of the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training’s Executive Command College.
Perez earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, a Master’s degree in Behavioral Science, and a Doctoral Degree in the field of Public Administration.
