This Thanksgiving, get in the holiday spirit by helping Union Station Homeless Services prep their Thanksgiving dinners on Wednesday, November 25, before they’re given out the next day.
And if you don’t have anything going on Thanksgiving Day, donate your time to help these people pass out the Thanksgiving meals on Thanksgiving Day.
With this year’s unusual circumstances, Union Station’s annual Dinner in the Park – the 50th – will be a bit different but just as meaningful.
Dinner in the Park has been an uplifting community tradition over the years as Union Station and their partners and sponsors provide thousands of holiday meals and hope for all who were able to attend, including homeless men, women, children, seniors, very low-income families, and those with no place to go during the holidays.
This time, since a large community dinner isn’t possible, Union Station and their volunteers will still give thanks and celebrate by serving private, festive sit-down dinners for residents at the Adult Center, the Family Center and Centennial Place.
But many of the other meals may have to be delivered to those in need in their homes, or passed out in designated areas, and this is where you can volunteer your time.
Volunteers can help in food sorting, preparation, cooking, packaging, and serving. All options will follow all health and safety protocols.
You can also help by providing the food and supplies needed for these meals, based on “at-home meals” or “to-go meals” wish lists that Union Station has published on their website.
