Published on Aug 21, 2021

My Tribe Rise Brothers Connecting with Brothers is set to present “PEACE in the Park,” a day of celebration and mobility justice dialogue with the communities of Altadena and Pasadena at Charles White Park on Saturday, August 21 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

In partnership with the County of Los Angeles, Dena United, Altadena Bicycle Club, Manhood Reach Out, Side Street Projects, and the County of  Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, the event will start with a first come first served free full course breakfast, then activating the park with a community-led peace walk followed by intergenerational arts and crafts, yoga, meditation,  kids bike skills course, bike repairs, and free bike helmets and other giveaways.

“PEACE in the Park” purpose is to bring both communities safely to collectively engage in discussion on how Charles White ‘Peace’ Park can be reactivated into a safe place for everyone, organizers said.

The event will provide the opportunity for community engagement in addressing the need for safer routes to the park, transit and help identify a safe street network to improve the quality of life in the community, My Tribe Rise organizers said. The event will showcase solutions such as a temporary bike lane and safer intersection crossings, freeing up the space around the park for the community to enjoy, and more in an effort to begin the process of revisioning the future of the park.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their families and friends for a day of celebration in harmony and to add to the collective conversation of reactivating the park into a safe haven for the community.

Organizers said that the following speakers would attend:  Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo; Dennis Haywood, Founder and Editor of Pasadena Black Pages; Charles Thomas, President of Outward Bound Adventures; Pastor Anthony McFarland, Abundant Harvest Church; and Frankie Washington, of Ignite Youth.

Charles White Park is located at 77 Mountain View Street in Altadena.
