Tired of Singing Alone in the Shower? Towne Singers Spring Concert Rehearsals Start Soon

Published on Jan 17, 2023

Tired of singing alone in the shower? The Pasadena-area choral group Towne Singers might have the perfect alternative for you.

The non-audition choir is currently in need of male voices for its Spring concert but is welcoming anyone interested to join its family of musicians.

On June 10, the Towne Singers’ 2023 Spring concert, “Light Fantastic,” will feature a repertoire of selections inspired by “light.”

Rehearsals begin Monday, Jan. 23, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 1757 N Lake Ave. in Pasadena.

If you’re interested, contact Merrily Hake, Membership Coordinator, by email at merrilyhake@earthlink.net with questions and new member orientation information.

New member orientation sessions will be held on Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m., and on Jan. 30, 6:30 p.m. These orientation sessions will be held right before each of the first two rehearsals.

Rehearsals are held Mondays, 7:00 through 9:00 p.m.

The Towne Singers was founded in 1982 in La Cañada and is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

Serving Pasadena, La Cañada, Glendale, Arcadia and Foothills, the Towne Singers take pride in their ability to sing all types of music, and in a wide variety of styles. The group’s musical repertoire includes great classical elements, but these are always complemented with other choral genres, including popular, Broadway, spirituals, gospel, folk, and patriotic.

The full choir performs two or three major concerts each year. In addition, the auditioned Towne Singers “chamber choir” performs in community outreach events, and other social or musical events in the region. The choir has performed three times at Carnegie Hall, including a 2004 performance of Rutter’s Requiem, conducted by Rutter, and a 2006 performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria. They performed the Rutter Requiem again in 2010 at the Lincoln Center in New York.

The group is often invited to attend festivals and choral events, and toured internationally in 2005. The Towne Singers have also been honored with citations of artistic excellence by the State of California and the City of La Cañada Flintridge.
