This week is computer science education week, and to celebrate, the Pasadena Public Library is hosting a week of free virtual tutorials that will teach kids ages 7 and up how to code.

Starting on Monday, Dec. 7, and continuing until Friday, participants will receive an Hour of Code – one hour of tutorials each day, where kids are introduced to the magic of computer science through games, coding puzzles, tutorials, and many other fun activities.

Computer Science Education Week started in 2009 through the efforts of the National Science Foundation and the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM). For one week in December, millions of students around the world take part in the activities, now mostly online. Events are organized by local volunteers from schools, research institutions and other groups.

For those participating in Pasadena Public Library’s online event, Monday’s session will be an easier coding tutorial for beginning coders ages 7 and up.

To register, visit the library’s events calendar, at www.cityofpasadena.net/library/calendar and click the Dec. 7, 3 p.m. tab. Fill out and submit the online form. A link to the virtual event will be sent to your email after you register.

Hour of Code is from 3 to 4 p.m.
