Flintridge Prep Holds its Annual Beatnik Cafe

Flintridge Prep’s 8th grade class took over the Chandramohan Library for the annual Beatnik Cafe. The day featured recitations of memorized poetry, drum accompaniment, snaps of appreciation, at least one chair top rendition of “O Captain! My Captain!”, and a screening of cinema classic “Dead Poets Society.” “A lot of poetry is meant to be heard instead of just read on the page,” says 8th grade English teacher Megan Burton, who also cited the importance of providing “an authentic audience” for students. “When they’re doing something not just for me the teacher, but because there’s a true audience listening, it elevates the experience.”
