Flintridge Sacred Heart Hosts Successful 48th Annual Johansing Golf Tournament

The Johansing Golf Tournament is in its 48th year and raises important funds for need-based tuition assistance for qualified students.

Flintridge Sacred Heart hosted a successful 48th Annual Johansing Golf Tournament Monday at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, Calif. More than 110 people took part in the all-day event to help raise funds for the Harry G. Johansing Scholarship Fund, which holds an Endowment of nearly $2 million for scholarship support. Participants were able to enjoy a day of golf and evening reception, all to raise funds for need-based tuition assistance to qualified students.

The event included coffee from Don Francisco, driving range, a “Bet on the Sisters” putting contest and raffle, lunch, shotgun start, on-course games, activities, raffles and prizes. It also included a Harry G. Johansing Scholarship Reception, live and silent auction, jewelry raffle, food, drinks, live entertainment and a Tournament Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony featured former Harry G. Johansing Scholar Alyssa Adriano, who graduated from Flintridge Sacred Heart in 2021, and is now in her second year at UCLA studying Mechanical Engineering and Communications. At Flintridge Sacred Heart, Adriano participated in ComedySportz and St Francis High School’s theatre program, and was a member of the Campus Ministry Leadership Team for her junior and senior year, and the Associated Student Body’s Campus Minister during her senior year. Taking Principles of Engineering and Honors Engineering for Social Good led her on the path to UCLA’s engineering program where she is not only a student, but a mentor to freshmen entering the engineering program.

Adriano shared some of her accomplishments and described how her experience at Flintridge Sacred Heart shaped her as a student, a professional and an advocate for others. The scholarship fund — now in its 48th year — is named in honor of Harry G. Johansing, Jr., a member of the advisory board that originated the golf tournament in 1974.

The Johansing family has long been associated with Flintridge Sacred Heart. Harry G. Johansing, Sr. built a large family home on Flintridge Drive in what was then still Pasadena in 1926 to house his wife and seven children. As soon as Flintridge Sacred Heart opened its doors a little way up the hill in 1931, he enrolled his daughter Mary Claire. She was student body president during her senior year and records show that she served as president of the Alumnae Association board following her graduation from FSHA in 1934.

“We are grateful for the commitment of the Johansing family throughout the years to keep this significant scholarship effort alive on the Hill,” said Flintridge Sacred Heart President Sister Carolyn McCormick. “Their presence with us at the tournament and dinner are a confirmation of this family’s long-standing support of our mission on the Hill.”

Flintridge Sacred Heart is an all-girls, Catholic, Dominican day and boarding school located in La Cañada Flintridge, a suburb of Los Angeles. We are committed to preparing young women for a future rooted in faith, integrity and truth. The event was sponsored by Luke & Colleen Welsh; Gaviña Gourmet Coffee; All Things Comedy Network; Udell | Wang; Paragon Capital Partners; Bright Smiles Dental Studio; Alberto & Krista Ocon; The Maloney Group; Briselda & Jake Mota; Bones Battalion; Robert P.
