Gaining First Hand Work Experience using BoscoTech’s IDEA Lessons

Randy Orozco (IDEA ’22) is putting Bosco Tech’s IDEA lessons to good use this summer as Project Production and Coordinator Apprentice at Garden Grove’s RPO Designs Inc., a full service architectural and design firm.

“I wanted to do the internship to gain first-hand work experience and to network by meeting people in an industry in which I’m interested,” said Randy, who plans to study Mechanical Engineering. “And I do see myself gaining greater understanding of architecture and design and more knowledge of design software, while meeting clients who work in engineering and construction.”

His background in IDEA made the classroom-to-job transition a positive experience, especially his familiarity with industry terminology, basic understanding of designing structures, and ease in 3D modeling programs.

Randy, who is vice president of the Bosco Tech’s Key Club and an active member of the FRC Robotics team and the National Honor Society, said he would encourage underclassmen to consider an internship opportunity in the future, sharing that he believes it would motivate them to consider future professions, as well as giving them the opportunity to meet people currently in the field.

And what will Randy bring back to the classroom when school resumes in a few weeks? “I’m developing the constantly focused mindset of being on the job, along with a new sense of the importance of project deadlines and time management.”
