Marshall Students Participates in the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s Program “Explore the Shore”

Marshall Fundamental School Students from Ms. Caruso’s 6th-grade science classes had the opportunity to take part in the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s program, “Explore the Shore”. They began the day learning about California grunions (a species of fish found only along the coast of Southern California and Baja Mexico) and hatching their very own grunion babies. Next up, students rotated through three stations where they observed wildlife using binoculars, identified natural objects found along the shore, and found living organisms in the sand and water.

These hands-on activities were accompanied by discussions about the challenges facing local marine wildlife and what people can do in the name of conservation. This experience directly corresponds to 6th-grade science standards concerning human impact on the environment and was the perfect activity leading up to Earth Day on April 22nd.
