Oak Knoll Montessori School’s Elementary Program
Oak Knoll Montessori School’s Elementary Program (6-12 years) cultivates the exploration and imagination typical of children this age through an integrated curriculum. Children in this program develop a systems perspective of the world and their role within it. A combination of individual work and group collaboration promotes critical thinking, problem solving, and research skills that are necessary at all levels of education.
The Montessori curriculum comes alive by engaging the imagination of children through vivid story telling, impressionistic charts and timelines, and scientific demonstrations. Elementary children participate in the planning, management and assessment of their own learning through daily recording keeping, enhanced by one-on-one conferences with the Guide.
Mathematics (including geometry and algebra), language, history, biology, geography, music and art are all taught in the integrated elementary curriculum. While testing does not occur in an elementary Montessori program, each child is constantly assessed by the Guide to ensure he or she is reaching appropriate developmental and academic milestones.
