Sequoyah’s Treehouse Class Visit Watts Towers

Sequoyah’s Treehouse class visited Watts Towers as a part of their CA history immigration unit. Simon Rodia, an impoverished Italian immigrant built the towers over the course of decades single handedly and left a beautiful impact on his community which he called “Nuestro Pueblo”. Students also had the opportunity to visit the Watts Towers Art Center’s Charles Mingus Gallery to see “Black, Brown & Beige,” an exhibition of paintings inspired by Duke Ellington’s symphony by the same name, described by Ellington as, “a parallel to the history of the American Negro”. The title of the symphony referred to the mistaken assertion that African-Americans can be categorized by a single color. Sequoyah thanks PixoStrangers for the beautiful photographs.
