Calling All Ghosts, Goblins, and Ghouls: Pasadena Parks and Rec Hosts Halloween Photo Contest

The Pasadena Parks and Recreation Department isn’t letting a pandemic get in the way of having some fun. Instead, they are hosting a virtual Halloween Photo Contest, featuring Halloween costumes – individual, family or group, and even pet costumes – and Halloween-inspired home décor.

Before the end of the day on Thursday, Oct. 29, people can submit their “most SPOOK-tacular, FANG-tastic and unBOOlievably best of the best” photos to get a chance to win fun Halloween prizes.

A list of the categories in the photo contest includes “3’s a crowd + 1,” where participants can submit family or group costumes that are the same theme and well-coordinated; “Out of the Box,” which requires costumes that are thoughtful and different, or something that hasn’t been done before; “Thingamabob and Do-dads,” or costumes that are made of stuff laying around the house, such as knick knacks and other upcycled materials; “Eeek!” or scary costumes that one would definitely not want to see at night; “The HeHe HaHa: Make us laugh,” which are silly and LOL-worthy costumes; “K-9 Couture” for dogs in costume; and “The Total Package,” original and well-executed costumes that must be the best of the best of all categories.

Photos of Halloween- or Fall-themed home decorations are in the Home Decor category.

The rules say there is no need to enter a specific category when submitting photos. The judges will place costume photos into one of the categories listed. If a person’s costume falls into multiple categories, they will be considered in each of those categories.

The contest is open to Pasadena residents only, 18 or older. Proof of residency will be required when claiming a prize.

All entries must be family-friendly. Explicit or offensive photo entries will be disqualified. Winners will be notified through their social media account or email. Unclaimed prizes will be given to contest runners up.

Under the guidelines, photos must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday to be eligible to win.

There are two ways to enter: either tag your photos #prcshalloween20 when you post them on social media or email them to prcsevents@cityofpasadena.net with the subject line “Halloween Contest.”

The contest is supported by donations from the City of Pasadena Management Association.
