Clairbourn 8th Graders: Study of Forces and Flight

Clairbourn School’s eighth grade class recently wrapped up their study of forces and flight, including several hands-on labs to learn more about the four forces of flight: weight, lift, thrust, and drag. They built paper airplanes to study the effect of weight, wing size and wing design on distance and duration of flight. To learn more about the effect of turbulence on drag, students built paper kites and varied the length of the tails. Do you know the kites with smaller tails barely took flight, while the kites with longer tails were able to fly high even with very little wind? “We love seeing students taking learning outdoors!”
