The Pasadena Tournament of Roses, along with the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation, celebrated the Big Day for Teachers by honoring Pasadena teacher Victoria Camargo with a $1,000 DonorsChoose gift card to use toward student resources. The Big Day for Teachers is a part of the CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers Week, which celebrates educators across the country.

Victoria Camargo has dedicated her life to teaching and mentorship. She began her career in education as an instructional aide in Crest View and later worked at Allendale Elementary and Linda Vista in Pasadena. From there, she went to Altadena Elementary, continuing as a master teacher, BTSA (Beginning Teacher and Support Program), grade level chair, a School Site Council Member, PTA Liaison, and Technology Leader. While at Altadena Elementary, Camargo taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade.

Camargo became the Arts Magnet Specialist/Coach at Altadena Arts Magnet in 2017. She has been pivotal in preparing students for the PTA Reflections Art Contest, the SA (Magnet Schools of America) National Arts contest, PUSD No Boundary Art Show, and the PEF Showcase. While at Altadena Arts, Camargo also created the annual Art Walk, which showcases the extraordinary artwork of every grade level at Altadena. Her commitment to teaching was especially apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic. Camargo re-imagined Art Education online, organizing take home art supply boxes for every student, teaching live art sessions, and creating a digital art walk.

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses presented Camargo with a DonorsChoose Gift Card in a surprise visit to Altadena Arts Magnet today.

“We are thrilled to celebrate Ms. Camargo as a part of CFP Extra Yard for Teachers Week and the Big Day for Teachers,” said Tournament of Roses President Amy Wainscott. “Ms. Camargo has dedicated her career to working with students and showing them the importance of the arts in their life. She’s an amazing educator and we are proud to support amazing teachers like Ms. Camargo through our work with the CFP Foundation.”

The CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers Week is a nine-day celebration, from September 16-24, that honors and recognizes great teachers. Throughout the week, the college football community, including universities, conferences, bowl games and ESPN, goes out of its way to let teachers know they are valued and respected.
